and join your host Darren Tomlin for an afternoon
of instructional sailing in the
sun!
"Deserata"
is a refitted 30 foot C&C sail boat located blocks from the
property at the port of Sidney.
Trips include:
- An introduction to sailing, starting with safety and emergency procedures
- Boating terminology
- Sail operation, furling and unfurling the sail; and operating under engine power
- Navigational skills and positioning with GPS or charts
- Examination of tides and currents
- Overview of certification if you choose to pursue sailing, e.g. PCOC - Pleasure Craft Operator's Card and CYA - Canadian Yachting Association certification
- Options of where to go, such as local well-known areas, hidden coves, exploration, fishing or crabbing hospots
- Appetizers and non-alcoholic
beverages are also provided
- Enjoying the abundant marine wildlife viewing possibilities - seals, herons, otters, porpoises, the occasional pod of whales, among others

Sailing the famous Gulf Islands is easy and fun. Sidney, BC, is conveniently located near both Salt Spring and Pender Islands. We can visit the famous Sidney Spit among other locales.
There are a number of small protected bays where we can anchor and enjoy the sun and watch the local wildlife.
We bring crab traps and
fishing rods and often catch fresh seafood and enjoy it
onboard, or come back to the property and
cook your catch.
